1.What is HDR

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range Imaging, namely: High Dynamic Range, referred to as HDRI or HDR. It is a group of techniques used to achieve a greater dynamic range of exposure (ie, a greater gap between light and dark) than ordinary digital imaging techniques. The purpose of high dynamic range imaging is to correctly represent the wide range of brightness in the real world, from direct sunlight to the darkest shadows. HDR is widely involved in display devices, photography, 3D rendering, music recording, and digital video and audio production. In fact, HDR is widely involved in all links from content acquisition, content processing, content transmission to content production. HDR technology is able to reproduce the rich brightness levels in real life very well, resulting in realistic effects.

2.The advantages of HDR

The image quality improvement brought by HDR is very obvious. For example, a display device that supports HDR can display more details in bright parts and more clearly present details in dark parts. VESA defined the highest level of support for HDR display devices in the Display HDR CTS V1.0 specification released on November 27, 2017 is DisplayHDR-1000, that is, the peak brightness can reach 1000 nits*2. Compared with other display technologies, LED display technology naturally has the characteristics of high brightness, which can express the excellent characteristics of HDR to the greatest extent, and is the best carrier of HDR technology. The image below shows the differenc between HDR and SDR.
